It's party time!
The village of Terento, with its thousand-year history, is the guardian of ancient traditions that live on in its lively folk festivals, where dancing, music and good food are always in abundance. Once known as the ‘granary of the Puster Valley’, it is home to several centuries-old water mills that can be visited on the first weekend in August during the Festival of the Mills, featuring musical entertainment and local specialities.
On 15 August, it’s time for the Harvest Festival, where everyone can watch and take part in the wheat harvest, accompanied by music and a traditional country snack. The Transhumance Festival is not to be missed: the autumn return of the cattle from the mountain pastures is a spectacular event featuring folk dancing, music, a farmers’ market and plenty of delicious food to sample. In October, the Terner Bauernkuchl food festival showcases traditional Puster Valley dishes.
The most magical time of year in our part of the world is undoubtedly Advent. In an intimate and cosy atmosphere, Terento dresses up for the festivities at the weekends in December, coming alive with lights, music and choirs. This is Tearna Advent, featuring a Christmas market, a nativity scene exhibition, torchlit processions and engaging activities for young and old alike.
Throughout the Puster Valley, the Christmas season is packed with events, the most notable of which are the famous Christmas markets. A must-visit is the market in the historic centre of Brunico, featuring handcrafted goods, traditional delicacies and concerts. In July, the capital of the Puster Valley is transformed for three days into a huge stage for ‘Brunico in Festa’, a lively festival with a packed programme of music, traditional dishes and the traditional costume parade.
